My Dad

Let me tell you a story about the one time I ever went to get coffee with my dad George W. Bush. It was the most annoying time ever he was at the counter ordering and he said he wanted a Cap-oh-chi-no, but he sounded out every single syllable. Then the person behind the counter asked what size he wanted and I was like oh lord here we go again. He ended up saying that he wanted a gr- rr- aaaannn- ddee. And he was moving his head forward and backwards on every syllable it was like he was having a hard time pronouncing the word. Then after he said that he looked around like he thought someone was going to yell at him for saying it wrong. That was the only time I have ever gone to get coffee with my dad.

Tradition

Authors Note: This is about the theme of “The Lottery” and how tradition plays a big part of this story.
Imagine a twisted town one that has any traditions. Some of which are normal then others but then there’s one that sticks out like a sore thumb. In the story “The Lottery” there is a twisted tradition involved and that is the theme.
The theme of this story is tradition and that is because of all of the tradition that they have in the city. It may see different then what people in modern society think of when they think of a lottery. When the modern person thinks of the lottery they think of hard to win, like getting attacked by a polar bear and a brown bear in the same day, then of course the money. Well that is not the focus of this story in this story if you win the lottery you don’t win any money you win DEATH.  Then sense it’s a tradition that would break that tradition.
In the end the people of this city just do what they think is right. Although it may not be humane it is a tradition and that is how these people live.

Viruses The Truth

Authors Note: This is my science research paper on viruses.
Have you ever wondered how you get sick? Have you ever wondered what is really happening to your body? Have you ever wondered how the viruses that attack your body operate? These are questions that the average person would ask when they get sick. Also these are question the average person would want to know. Viruses can be deadly such as small pox and viruses could just be annoying like the common cold.
The way viruses will affect organism is “viruses come into contact with the host cell, and once in contact with the cell, the virus inserts its genetic material which completely takes over the host’s cells functions.” (Berkeley, 2005). The dominant virus will overtake the cell using its genetic material. “A large group of submicroscopic invective agents that attack hosts cells.  They use there DNA genetic material  to attack the seipermeable membrane, which then the material multiplies and liver inside of the host cells. After a while the material will attack the cells and take over the cells.(Virus, 2012). This is saying that a large group of submicroscopic invective agents attack hosts cells. Although this is just a broad view of what the viruses do, the viruses actually have names and do different things that make them personal.
One of the viruses is small pox. “Small Pox is a disease without a specific treatment. Small Pox is a serious contagious and somewhat fatal disease. The only way to prevent it is to get a vaccinated” (Small Pox Disease Overview, 2007). Before the vaccine, “Small Pox used to be the most devastating disease ever. In the 20th century alone, there were 300-500 million deaths worldwide. That is more deaths than all of the 20th century wars combined. The disease killed about 400,000 Europeans every year and made 1/3 of those people blind” (Henderson, 2009). There are many sicknesses some sicknesses are caused by multilple viruses.
When people think of the common cold they think of a sore throat, the stomach aches, and the fever. “The common cold doesn’t have a cure because there are more than 200 viruses that cause the cold symptoms” (Common Cold, 2011). “The common cold has many symptoms such as a runny nose, nasal congestion, and sneezing. You may also have a sore throat, cough, headache, or other symptoms”  (Common Cold, 2012).  The common cold and small pox are bad and most people don’t want them, but there are also some helpful viruses.
It may be an ugly truth but viruses may be helpful. The viruses that can kill may be good because they cut down on world population. When viruses kill people, the government would like to find a cure for them, this takes many years and lots of money. Also this needs people and that means jobs. When there are jobs the economy will become better. My mom has always been a stay at home mom until my dad lost his job and we have been in the need for some extra money. So my mom got a job working for the muscular dystrophy organization. They are the people that raise money for the research of muscular dystrophy.
People need to know what is happening to there body when they are sick. When people get sick they want simple answers. Without answers people get annoyed.  When people write essays like this one, people that want answers will get the answers that they want.

A Great Part of a Family

Authors Note: This is my Theme Piece on how family is the most important thing in life, in The Outsiders By: S.E Hinton and Zach's Lie By: Roland Smith
“We’re all we got left. We ought to be able to stick against everything. If we don’t have each other, we don’t have anything.” Sodapop one of the main characters from The Outsiders by S.E Hinton knows more than anyone that family is the most important aspect in life. In Zach’s Lie by Roland Smith, Zach the main character also knows that family is the most important aspect in life even though he is in a totally different situation.
In The Outsiders many of the greasers don’t have stable families, but when you take bits and parts of the broken families you can piece it together like a puzzle and create an invincible family. For example Johnny’s parents beat him, wish he wasn’t alive, and pretend that he isn’t there. Then, once you take Johnny as a puzzle piece and put him with Sodapop, Darry, and Ponyboy you create a stronger family. After that you throw in Dally and even two-bit to add even more strength. Which leads to Zach’s stable but breaking family.
In Zach’s lie you get a family that is living through a lie. Their father is a pilot for the drug cartels. Then when the father gets caught by the government he gets put in jail. A couple of days later the family has an unexpected visit at four in the morning with members of the drug cartel and they threatened to kill Zach’s Family. Then the government finds out of the incident and they put Zack’s family in the witness protection agency.  That is when Zach’s family starts to break.
Zack’s family is falling apart they are now in Elko Nevada, forgetting about everything from their old life. In Zach’s new life his family has short fuses. They are fighting a lot and are falling away from each other. They are constantly arguing and yelling at each other. Which then leads to Zach leaving the house on walks trying to blow off steam, with this occurring it may lead Zach into being caught. Then at the end they get there Dad back and are hidden in another part of the USA for the time being.
When Johnny Kills the soc in the park, the strength of the family is challenged. Although the challenge is tough to overcome they know that it will be fine in the end. They give Johnny and Ponyboy money for food and they tell them where to stay for the time being. When the problem is over there is another challenge to overcome which is harder than the first. Johnny gets caught in the fire at the church and he is put in the hospital. Once that happens the family is crushed, but they know they have to overcome what is happening. Little do the boys know that Johnny’s time is running out he is severely burned and is the youngest of the family. The unthinkable happens and Johnny dies. Dally gets angry and does something really stupid which gets himself killed by the cops, the invincible family is set back and sad but they know they just have to live through it no matter how hard it gets.
All in all family is the key. Many people don’t realize it until it’s too late. Family is one of those things that you don’t know what you have until it is gone. People sacrifice themselves for their family and that is just how life is. What really happened in the two stories was love, the invincible family had to of loved each other to stay together and strong, and Zach’s family had to love each other or they would of fallen apart and who knows what else would of happened.

The Poem Analysis

Authors Note: This is my reaction/ response to the two poems "The Big Yellow Taxi" and "The Field Below."

In the poem the "Big Yellow Taxi" you get a feeling as a reader that saddens you. It also makes you feel bad about what happen to the writer. I take it as a calling, not to take anything for granted, and you don't realize what you've got until its gone. Although in the song you get a amped up feeling, if you didn't know the lyrics and what the song was about you would get a good feeling out of it. The tone in the song is happy and glad, but the tone in the poem is sad and regretful. Then the mood of the song is amped up but in a sad way.
In the poem "The Field Below" you get the same feeling in the poem as the big yellow taxi, a feeling that saddens you and makes you feel bad. While reading the poem you are sympathetic to the author. Then in the poem the tone is sad and regretful. Then in the song it’s the same way even though you could barely understand what the singer was saying. The mood of the poem is calming and sad. Then the mood of the song is also the same way. It was sad and calming, it reminded me of the songs that are on the human society commercials.

Doons Rising Moment

Authors Note: This is my character Development Piece to show how Doon from The City of Ember is a Rising Soul And how he affects others.
Imagine a world full of darkness, a world that has been stripped down almost to nothing. Not because of robbers, but because of the people living in it, taking what they want whenever they want it. Now life is shortening, just like the supplies in the city. In The City of Ember by Jeanne Duprau, Doon is a rising soul in a falling world; he is determined to save the city when everybody else is losing hope.
Doon is a 12 year old boy and has just been thrown out into the world with a job working in the pipe works. He was originally a messenger but with a simple trade he got his dream job. Doon and all of the people that live in ember rise as people when they turn 12 they get jobs and work almost every day. Doon as a character rises more than anyone in the city. He realizes that the city is dyeing and that he is smart enough to figure out how to fix it.
When Doons dad says this quote you get a feeling from reading other books that he is going to save the city. “The main thing is, pay attention. Pay close attention to everything, everything you see. Notice what no one else notices, and you'll know what no one else knows. What you get is what you get. What you do with what you get, that's more the point.” Doon rises as a person when the mayor is telling everybody that everything is ok. He takes that as a challenge to prove that the city is not alright and that they have to leave.
When they have to leave, Doon is taking his challenge from the mayor to the extreme by figuring out the impossible with his friend Lina. They are playing scrabble with a chewn up, torn up, and slobbered on piece of paper that they don’t even know is important. When they think they figure out some of the sheet, they know that they have to find an E in the pipe works so Doon goes down there and finds the E then they have found a way out, now they have to escape.
As a reader you realize that Doon is rising after every page, and he is becoming more mature. He is realizes that when he gets to the new world or the other city he has to become a man and grow from a child to a man. Doons actions are affecting the way Lina is acting, Lina used to be a laid back messenger that just got the job done. Now she is a mature determined Woman.
Now with Doon, Lina, and Lina’s sister Poppy they have left a world of light, a world of warmth, and a world of supplies. No more scarcity, no more problems with people taking what they want whenever they want it. Now they will find a new world full of people, full of supplies, and full of hope.
