Authors Note: This is my science research paper on viruses.
Have you ever wondered how you get
sick? Have you ever wondered what is really happening to your body? Have you
ever wondered how the viruses that attack your body operate? These are
questions that the average person would ask when they get sick. Also these are
question the average person would want to know. Viruses can be deadly such as
small pox and viruses could just be annoying like the common cold.
The way viruses will affect organism
is “viruses come into contact with the host cell, and once in contact with the
cell, the virus inserts its genetic material which completely takes over the
host’s cells functions.” (Berkeley, 2005).
The dominant virus will overtake the cell using its genetic material. “A large
group of submicroscopic invective agents that attack hosts cells. They use there
DNA genetic material to attack the
seipermeable membrane, which then the material multiplies and liver inside of
the host cells. After a while the material will attack the cells and take over
the cells.” (Virus, 2012). This is
saying that a large group
of submicroscopic invective agents attack hosts cells. Although this is just a
broad view of what the viruses do, the viruses actually have names and do
different things that make them personal.
One
of the viruses is small pox. “Small Pox is a disease without a specific
treatment. Small Pox is a serious contagious and somewhat fatal disease. The
only way to prevent it is to get a vaccinated” (Small
Pox Disease Overview, 2007). Before the vaccine, “Small Pox used to be
the most devastating disease ever. In the 20th century alone, there
were 300-500 million deaths worldwide. That is more deaths than all of the 20th
century wars combined. The disease killed about 400,000 Europeans every year
and made 1/3 of those people blind” (Henderson,
2009). There are many sicknesses some sicknesses are caused by multilple
viruses.
When people think of the common cold
they think of a sore throat, the stomach aches, and the fever. “The common cold doesn’t have a cure
because there are more than 200 viruses that cause the cold symptoms” (Common Cold, 2011). “The common cold has many
symptoms such as a runny nose, nasal
congestion, and sneezing. You may also have a sore throat, cough, headache, or
other symptoms” (Common Cold, 2012). The common cold and small pox are bad and most
people don’t want them, but there are also some helpful viruses.
It
may be an ugly truth but viruses may be helpful. The viruses that can kill may
be good because they cut down on world population. When viruses kill people,
the government would like to find a cure for them, this takes many years and
lots of money. Also this needs people and that means jobs. When there are jobs
the economy will become better. My mom has always been a stay at home mom until
my dad lost his job and we have been in the need for some extra money. So my
mom got a job working for the muscular dystrophy organization. They are the
people that raise money for the research of muscular dystrophy.
People need to know what is
happening to there body when they are sick. When people get sick they want
simple answers. Without answers people get annoyed. When people write essays like this one, people
that want answers will get the answers that they want.
